Volleyball Recap: Briggs Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Alex Xayavong and Victor Som

After flying high against Walnut Ridge last Tuesday, Briggs came back down to earth. The Bruins fell just short of the Reynoldsburg Raiders by a score of 2-1 on Saturday. The Bruins have struggled against the Raiders recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Briggs started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last two. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-22, 25-15.

Despite the loss, Briggs had strong showings from Victor Som, who had eight digs, and Alex Xayavong, who had 13 kills and nine digs. Xayavong is crushing it when it comes to kills: he's had at least six every time he's taken the court this season.

Zain Sammour was the offensive standout of the match as he had 17 digs and one assist. Those 17 digs gave him a new career-high.

Briggs' record is now 3-5. As for Reynoldsburg, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Briggs has already played their next game, a 2-0 defeat against Sycamore on the 29th. As for Reynoldsburg, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 2-0 loss against Brunswick on the 29th.
