League recap: Temple City climbs in state rankings with win

Temple City moved up to 730 from 852 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Rio Hondo. The Rams were able to make the jump by beating Rosemead 20-10.

San Marino extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating South El Monte, 31-21. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.

Monrovia's dynamic duo of Blake Heyworth and Ge Vontray Ainsworth proved tough for St. Francis to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Heyworth threw for 112 yards and Ainsworth had 62 yards receiving. Mason Bryant helped Monrovia's passing attack out by catching two balls for 28 yards.

Nick Starling was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 22 carries, he ran for 143 yards as Temple City defeated the Golden Knights. Teammate Nick Kaneko added to the ground attack by rushing for 44 yards.

Monrovia's Heyworth and Bryant have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Rio Hondo in both passing and receiving yards. Heyworth has thrown for 955 yards this season, while Bryant has 25 catches for 441 yards. Andy Paynter from La Canada leads the league in rushing with 447 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when South Pasadena takes on Ryan Maddox's team. As it stands, the Tigers are in second, while the Wildcats are in third.

Monrovia and St. Francis played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Monrovia eventually emerging with a 17-13 victory. Ainsworth ran for 132 yards in the win.
