Softball Recap: Grove City's Run of Four Straight Victories Now Over

Grove City dropped their record down to 9-6 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Hickory Hornets by a score of 1-0. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Eagles' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Taylor Thompson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Grove City saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Autumn Cook, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

As for Hickory, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.

On Hickory's side, the result came thanks to AJ Jarzab's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 16 Ks.

Grove City and Hickory could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. The Eagles will square off against Sharon at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (249 vs. 81). Meanwhile, Hickory (ranked 327th) will meet McDowell (ranked 38th) at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
