Soccer Game Preview: Alameda vs. Clayton Valley Charter

The Alameda Hornets will square off against the Clayton Valley Charter Ugly Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Alameda is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. Their defense stepped up to hand Richmond a 2-0 shutout. Given the Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 105th, while the Oilers are ranked 246th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Weslesy Butterfield and Jayson Wu scored both of Alameda's goals, bringing their combined season tally to ten goals.

Meanwhile, Clayton Valley Charter waltzed into their game on Wednesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They blew past the Cougars 4-1. The result was nothing new for the Ugly Eagles, who have now won eight matchups by three goals or more so far this season.

The victory made it two in a row for Alameda and bumps their season record up to 15-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those two contests. As for Clayton Valley Charter, their win bumped their record up to 16-2.

Alameda came up short against Clayton Valley Charter in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, falling 2-0. Can Alameda avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
