The Pompano Beach Golden Tornadoes will take on the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs in a tournament on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Pompano Beach will bounce into Monday's contest after beating Cooper City, who they had gone 0-5 against in their five prior meetings. The Golden Tornadoes put the hurt on the Cowboys with a sharp 14-3 win on Thursday. The victory was familiar territory for the Golden Tornadoes, who have now won six matches in a row.
Pompano Beach got a massive performance out of GABI OLIVER, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of ELLIE KLEE, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Pompano Beach kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cardinal Gibbons). They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over Coral Glades on Wednesday. The win was nothing new for the Chiefs as they're now sitting on five straight.
Lydia Berent made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs.
In other batting news, Morgan Beavers was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February of 2024. Caroline Findley also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Cardinal Gibbons pushed their record up to 19-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Pompano Beach, their record is now 13-8.
Both Pompano Beach and Cardinal Gibbons just can't seem to miss. The Golden Tornadoes have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Cardinal Gibbons struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4 hits.
