Baseball Recap: Parkway Central Comes Up Short

Parkway Central fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Howell Central on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 5-4. The Colts just can't catch a break and have now endured six losses in a row.

Colin Applebaum put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Applebaum was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Parkway Central: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-10 otherwise.

Applebaum wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Joe Thuston, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Parkway Central's defeat dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Howell Central, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 17-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Parkway Central will venture away from home to face off against Seckman at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Howell Central, they will head out to take on Westminster Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
