Basketball Recap: Brady Schieffer's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Waverly over Elkhorn North

Waverly was the 56-53 winner over Elkhorn North when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Waverly Vikings fell 53-43 to Elkhorn North on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 175th, while Elkhorn North are ranked ninth).

Waverly lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Brady Schieffer, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten boards. Another player making a difference was Isaac Clarke, who posted eight points and eight rebounds.

Waverly has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-14 record this season. As for Elkhorn North, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-3.

Waverly will take on Gretna East at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Gretna East is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.5 points per game this season. As for Elkhorn North, they will square off against Mount Michael Benedictine at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Mount Michael Benedictine has won five straight at home, while Elkhorn North won six straight on the road dating back to last season), something that'll have to change.
