Baseball Recap: Columbia Wins Going Away Against Stevenson

Columbia never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They blew past the Stevenson Bulldogs 23-0. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 18-2 on Monday.

Wyatt Stelma and Jaden Wang made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Stelma tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Wang pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Columbia is 3-1 when Stelma allows two or fewer hits, but 5-10 otherwise. At bat, Stelma went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Wang went 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave Wang a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dylan Landgren, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ben Borton, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Columbia kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The win made it two in a row for Columbia and bumps their season record up to 8-11. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Stevenson, they are on a 14-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-14.

Looking ahead, Columbia will be playing in front of their home fans against Elma at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Bruins surely won't give up without a fight. Stevenson does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
