Softball Game Preview: Blazer Tomcats vs. Russell Red Devils

The Blazer Tomcats are taking a road trip to face off against the Russell Red Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Wednesday, Blazer earned a 7-3 win over Wolfe County. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tomcats.

Russell never got on the board in their matchup on Thursday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Independence on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Patriots, sneaking past 11-10. Considering the Red Devils' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Russell got a massive performance out of Ava Howard, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave Howard a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gabby Oborne, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4.

Russell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Blazer's record is now 6-4. As for Russell, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-6 record.

Blazer couldn't quite finish off Russell in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 7-5. Can the Tomcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
