Softball Recap: Cabrini Extends Winning Streak to Three

Cabrini entered their tilt with Cardinal Mooney Catholic on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 19-5 margin over the Cardinals. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Monarchs also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Catherine Schumm made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Cabrini got a massive performance out of Raquel Zamarron, who went 2-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave Zamarron a new career-high. Jodi Browning was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Cabrini's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-12. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Cardinal Mooney Catholic, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8-1.

Coming up, Cabrini will take on Glen Lake at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Cardinal Mooney Catholic, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Cranbrook Kingswood at 4:30 p.m.
