Softball Game Preview: Tottenville Pirates vs. Midwood Hornets

The Tottenville Pirates will face off against the Midwood Hornets at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in Tottenville's favor as the squad sits on 14 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Midwood has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.

Tottenville's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Fort Hamilton as they made off with a 17-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won seven matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Veronica Broadbent was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. Broadbent was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Piera Campagna and Nina Rivera did most of the damage at the plate: Campagna went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI, while Rivera went 1-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Rivera has hit this season. Amanda Reyes was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.

Tottenville hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Midwood came up short against Grand Street Campus on Thursday and fell 15-11.

Midwood's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Tottenville, their victory bumped their record up to 9-1.

Everything went Tottenville's way against Midwood in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Tottenville made off with a 17-2 win. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
