Baseball Recap: Murrieta Mesa Comes Up Short

Murrieta Mesa lost a heartbreaker to Chaparral when they met last Monday, and they left with a heavy heart again on Friday. The Rams fell just short of the Pumas by a score of 12-11. Even if the Rams couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

JD Nelson was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Zach Janczyk, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4.

Murrieta Mesa dropped their record down to 9-5 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Chaparral, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-3.

Looking ahead, Murrieta Mesa will be playing at home against Murrieta Valley at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Nighthawks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.53 runs per game on average), something the Rams will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Chaparral, they are taking a road trip to challenge Temecula Valley at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
