League recap: Parkwood climbs in standings with win

2A Conference 9 recap October 1, 2013

Parkwood was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from fourth to second in 2A Conference 9. Earlier in the week, the Rebels defeated Cherryville 53-3.

Parkwood took down the Ironmen 53-3 last week, the largest margin of any game. Grey Wyrick threw for 199 yards and 3 touchdowns during the win.

Lynn Coble's team's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Tre Butler contributed 147 yards. Sam Mobley helped Parkwood's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 90 yards.

Wyrick put up the best numbers in passing as the Rebels bested Cherryville. Wyrick's favorite target this week was Max Robinson, who caught 2 passes for 90 yards.

Parkwood's Wyrick and Mobley led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Wyrick has thrown for 740 yards this season, while Mobley, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 21 catches for 463 yards. Central Academy's DeShawn Morrison leads the league in rushing yards with 552.

Monroe made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 1,566 from 2,377. The improvement was the result of a 32-3 victory over Sun Valley last week.
