Football Game Preview: Richfield Wildcats vs. Canyon View Falcons

The Richfield Wildcats will face off against the Canyon View Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Richfield's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last four games.

Richfield is likely headed into the contest with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Juab on Friday. The Wildcats fell 35-31 to the Wasps. While the Wildcats didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Wasps 14-7 in the first quarter.

Despite the loss, Richfield saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Colton White rushed for 124 yards and one score, and also picked up 79 receiving yards and one touchdown. White got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 74 yards. Another big playmaker for Richfield was Ripken Janes, who returned a punt for a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Canyon View played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Cedar, falling 35-14. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah football rankings (they are ranked 69th, while the Reds are ranked 18th).

The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Ryder Miller and Everett Kelling. Kelling had a great game and threw for 89 yards and a pair of TDs. Meanwhile, Miller was balling out in the loss, rushing for 128 yards and one score while picking up 7.1 yards per carry, and also throwing for 50 yards and one touchdown.

Richfield's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Canyon View, they dropped their record down to 4-4 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Everything came up roses for Richfield against Canyon View in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 42-10 victory. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
