Baseball Game Preview: Northwest Guilford Vikings vs. Northern Guilford Nighthawks

For the second straight game, Northwest Guilford will face off against Northern Guilford. Northwest Guilford will venture away from home to face off against Northern Guilford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Northwest Guilford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

On Tuesday, Northwest Guilford was able to grind out a solid win over Northern Guilford, taking the game 8-5. The victory continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Nighthawks: they've now won eight in a row.

Nic Turner made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Reed Benamati was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Preston McGirr also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Northern Guilford has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-4 record this season. Northwest Guilford's win bumped their record up to 5-6.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Northwest Guilford has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Northern Guilford struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts.
