Baseball Recap: Laingsburg Takes a Loss

Laingsburg extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 10-7 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Pewamo-Westphalia Pirates. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-3 on Thursday.

As for Pewamo-Westphalia, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-9. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

For Pewamo-Westphalia's part, Nolan George spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits. George also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Pirates are 6-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Pewamo-Westphalia's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Trey Nurenberg, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Nurenberg has posted over his last 12 matches. Logan Drysdale was another, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Coming up, Laingsburg will welcome Perry at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Pewamo-Westphalia, they have already played their next game, a 7-4 loss against Leslie on the 10th.
