Softball Recap: Friday's Win Is Mission Bay's Eighth in Last Nine Outings

Mission Bay owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 7-0 margin over the San Diego Cavers. Considering the Buccaneers have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Not much got past Abby Nelson, who gave up just four hits and racked up 15 Ks to keep San Diego off the board. Those 15 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Nelson.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Indy Beesley, who went 3-for-4 with three doubles and three RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Kimber Manuel also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Mission Bay kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as San Diego only managed five hits.

Mission Bay is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for San Diego, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-14.

Coincidentally, Mission Bay and San Diego will both be playing Coronado the next time they take the field. The Buccaneers will head out to face the Islanders at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while the Cavers will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
