Softball Game Preview: Brazos Cougars vs. Boling Bulldogs

The Brazos Cougars will square off against the Boling Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Boling took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Brazos, who comes in off a win.

Brazos is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victor by an 11-4 margin over Hitchcock on Tuesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Cougars as it spelled an end to their eight-game losing streak.

Ava Aguilar was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last three contests.

In other batting news, Amie Vasquez was a standout: she scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kendall Macha, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-4.

Brazos kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Boling fell victim to East Bernard and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Brahmas. The shutout was out of character for the Bulldogs seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in February.

Jaedyn Cordero spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks.

Brazos picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 4-13-1. As for Boling, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.

Brazos beat Boling 5-0 when the teams last played back in February. Does Brazos have another victory up their sleeve, or will Boling turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
