Waverly faced Bennington in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Vikings had just enough and edged out the Badgers 3-1. The win was nothing new for the Vikings as they're now sitting on seven straight.

Bruin Sampson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Waverly saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Crew Verkamp, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.

Waverly pushed their record up to 13-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Bennington, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-2.
