Football Recap: Bergen Catholic Takes Down St. Joseph in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Bergen Catholic had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 56-14 win over the St. Joseph Falcons. The result was nothing new for the Crusaders, who have now won six contests by 27 points or more so far this season.

Bergen Catholic found their leader in sophomore Trey Tagliaferri, who threw for 140 yards and five touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes. Those five passing touchdowns set a new season-high mark for Tagliaferri. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Willis, who picked up 38 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Bergen Catholic's defense and their four sacks. In that department, Joshua Cruz was the leader with two.

The victory made it two in a row for Bergen Catholic and bumps their season record up to 8-2. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 48.0 points over those games. As for St. Joseph, their loss dropped their record down to 8-2.

Looking ahead, Bergen Catholic will square off against Don Bosco Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Crusaders 14.1, the Ironmen 8.9) so any points scored will be well earned. St. Joseph does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
