Baseball Recap: Gardner-South Wilmington Finds Playoff Glory Versus Woodland

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Gardner-South Wilmington had no problem doing just that on Monday. They came out on top against the Woodland Warriors by a score of 6-1. This was a revenge game for the Panthers: when they faced off against the Warriors back in March, they had to take a 7-6 loss.

Case Christensen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cameron Gray was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Gardner-South Wilmington: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 8-16 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Millette, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Gardner-South Wilmington is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-17 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Woodland, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-17.

Coming up, Gardner-South Wilmington will head out to square off against Dwight at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Trojans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Woodland does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
