Softball Recap: Catholic Central Comes Up Short

Catholic Central extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 1-15. They lost 12-0 to the Northeastern Jets. If the Irish were looking for revenge after losing 17-0 to the Jets when the teams met back in May of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Northeastern, their record is now 8-9. That 12-run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

For Northeastern's part, Kylee Williams made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Williams has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

In other batting news, Northeastern let Laney Phillips and Sophia Shingler run wild. Phillips went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Shingler went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. What's more, Phillips posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Ashlynn Bowser, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Looking ahead, Catholic Central will face off against Cedarville at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Northeastern, they will take on Washington at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Blue Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.89 runs per game on average), something the Jets will no doubt try to take advantage of.
