Recap: Trinity Christian Academy Conquerors vs. Clearwater Central Catholic Marauders
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Trinity Christian Academy Conquerors, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They fell 39-32 to the Marauders on Friday. Trinity Christian Academy's defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Despite the loss, Trinity Christian Academy still got an impressive performance from Colin Hurley, who rushed for 58 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 245 yards and a touchdown while picking up 10.7 yards per attempt. Jayke Jones was in the mix too, providing Trinity Christian Academy with two touchdowns.
Clearwater Central Catholic's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jershaun Newton, who rushed for 101 yards on only 13 carries, and also threw for 162 yards and a touchdown while completing 75% of his passes. Justin Stephens also helped out as he racked up 130 rushing yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Clearwater Central Catholic's defensive line and their nine sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Keo Jenkins and Tyrique Harris who racked up five sacks between them.
Trinity Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Clearwater Central Catholic, they have yet to lose a matchup at home this season, leaving them with a 13-0 record.
Trinity Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Clearwater Central Catholic will head out on the road to face off against Chaminade-Madonna at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. Chaminade-Madonna knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matchups -- so hopefully Clearwater Central Catholic likes a good challenge.
