Baseball Game Preview: Goldwater Bulldogs vs. Marcos de Niza Padres

The Goldwater Bulldogs will venture away from home to face off against the Marcos de Niza Padres at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

As a matter of fact, Goldwater put up the most runs they have all season on Friday. Everything went their way against Agua Fria as they made off with a 15-2 win. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Owls: they've now won four in a row.

Connor Heather made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Braeden Evjen and Parker Windom did most of the damage at the plate: Evjen went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Windom went a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, two RBI, and one run. Goldwater is 2-1 when Evjen posts three or more hits, but 3-10 otherwise. Noah Mayberry was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Goldwater kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Marcos de Niza not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 19th. They put the hurt on Camelback with a sharp 18-3 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Padres as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Goldwater's record now sits at 5-11. As for Marcos de Niza, their record is now 7-13.
