Platt hasn't had much luck against Maloney recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Spartans at 6:00 p.m. Platt's pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so Maloney's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Platt barely beat Middletown the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Panthers blew past the Blue Dragons 12-1 on Friday. Considering the Panthers have won eight contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Giovanni DeMatteo made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. DeMatteo was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ryan Zauner was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jayden Gaither, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.
Meanwhile, Maloney suffered their biggest loss since May 9, 2024 on Thursday. They lost 8-1 to Newington. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Spartans' biggest loss of the season was also their lowest-scoring.
Platt is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Maloney, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
