Soccer Game Preview: Willis vs. Grand Oaks

Willis hasn't had much luck against Grand Oaks recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Willis Wildkats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Grand Oaks Grizzlies at 7:15 p.m. Neither team made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Willis' offense. They lost 3-0 to Oak Ridge on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Wildkats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 333rd, while the War Eagles are ranked 75th).

Meanwhile, Grand Oaks also failed to score in their most recent game. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Oak Ridge on Saturday. Kali McMahan was hit with a yellow card, which may have had some impact on her (and the team's) ability to make aggressive plays.

This is the second loss in a row for Willis and nudges their season record down to 7-6-1. As for Grand Oaks, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4-2.

Willis came up short against Grand Oaks in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 2-0. Can Willis avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
