Baseball Game Preview: Chavez Eagles vs. Port of Los Angeles Polar Bears

The Chavez Eagles will square off against the Port of Los Angeles Polar Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Chavez 3.4, Port of Los Angeles 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Chavez is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They came out on top against Maywood CES by a score of 7-4. The victory was familiar territory for the Eagles, who have now won three games in a row.

Meanwhile, Port of Los Angeles had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.2 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They walked away with a 7-3 win over the Wolves. That's two games straight that the Polar Bears have won by exactly four runs.

Steven Saenz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Port of Los Angeles let Joaquin Guerrero and Jonathan Rosette run wild. Guerrero went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run, while Rosette went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Garcia, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Chavez's victory bumped their record up to 17-10. As for Port of Los Angeles, their win bumped their record up to 14-8.

Chavez was able to grind out a solid victory over Port of Los Angeles when the teams last played back in February, winning 5-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
