Softball Game Preview: Watauga Pioneers vs. Ashe County Huskies

The Watauga Pioneers are taking a road trip to face off against the Ashe County Huskies at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Watauga has given up an average of 10.3 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Having struggled with eight defeats in a row, Watauga turned things around against Freedom on Friday. They came out on top against the Patriots by a score of 14-11. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Pioneers considering their one-run performance the contest before.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 12 runs the game before, Ashe County was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They came up short against South Caldwell, falling 11-1. The Huskies haven't had much luck with the Spartans recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Ashe County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abby Sheets, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Even though they lost, Ashe County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in five consecutive matches.

Watauga's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-8. As for Ashe County, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.

Watauga took their victory against Ashe County when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 19-1. Does Watauga have another victory up their sleeve, or will Ashe County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
