Volleyball Game Preview: The Vanguard School Coursers vs. Discovery Canyon Thunder

The Vanguard School Coursers will face off against the Discovery Canyon Thunder at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as The Vanguard School comes in on three and Discovery Canyon on four.

On Saturday, The Vanguard School beat Atlas Preparatory School 2-0.

The Vanguard School can attribute much of their success to Evahn Gritsyna, who had five aces, and Lucas Soeldner, who had five aces and two blocks. That's the most aces Soeldner has posted over his last 12 games. Isaiah Figueroa also deserves some recognition as he had his first kill of the season.

They weren't the only good server: The Vanguard School was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 22 aces. They are a perfect 3-0 when they serve at least ten aces.

Meanwhile, Discovery Canyon faced Cheyenne Mountain in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Thunder came out on top against the Red-Tailed Hawks by a score of 3-1.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-12, 21-25, 25-9, 25-17.

The Vanguard School's victory bumped their record up to 8-12. As for Discovery Canyon, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-4.

The Vanguard School might still be hurting after the 3-0 loss they got from Discovery Canyon when the teams last played back in April of 2022. Can the Coursers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
