Despite the defeat, John Paul II saw an underclassman step up: freshman Jadon Inabinett rushed for 62 yards and a pair of scores, and also picked up 33 receiving yards. Inabinett also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because the Golden Warrriors are 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 3-4 otherwise. Jackson Reilley was in the mix as well, providing John Paul II with one TD.
John Paul II didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Merrick Baroni and Zachary Moulton. John Paul II received some extra help from Reilley, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Florence Christian). They took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 49-20 victory over Trinity Collegiate. Considering the Eagles have won five games by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
John Paul II better focus on containing Andrew Miller and Brooks Poston as the pair were huge in Florence Christian's win. Miller rushed for 87 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, while Poston rushed for 91 yards and one score on only ten carries.
Florence Christian was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 356 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.
The win made it two in a row for Florence Christian and bumps their season record up to 7-2. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.0 points over those games. As for John Paul II, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. John Paul II has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 239.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Florence Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 214.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
John Paul II couldn't quite get it done against Florence Christian in their previous matchup back in November of 2023 as they fell 30-21. Can the Golden Warrriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
