Softball Game Preview: Peotone Blue Devils vs. Wilmington Wildcats

For the second straight game, Peotone will face off against Wilmington. The Blue Devils will be playing at home against the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Peotone 2.7, Wilmington 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Peotone is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Wilmington just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 2-0. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Blue Devils' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

For Wilmington's part, not much got past Taryn Gilbert, who gave up just four hits to keep Peotone off the board. Gilbert has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Wilmington's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Keeley Walsh, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Wilmington pushed their record up to 17-5 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Peotone, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-9.

Wilmington's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Peotone has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 13 strikeouts per game.
