Baseball Recap: Heartland Christian Sets Scoring Season-High Against Southern

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Heartland Christian). They put the hurt on the Southern Indians with a sharp 18-2 win on Monday. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Indians recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Evan Farrell and Alex Hamilton made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Farrell tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Hamilton tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At the plate, Farrell got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI and one run, while Hamilton went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. Those three hits gave Hamilton a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jack Morgan was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Heartland Christian: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brennan Murray, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Heartland Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .659. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Heartland Christian's win bumped their record up to 5-14. As for Southern, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 11 of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-16 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Heartland Christian will welcome Bristol at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Southern, they will host Aquinas at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
