Volleyball Recap: Rogers Falls Short Against Ranked Maple Grove

Rogers faced Maple Grove in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Royals fell just short of the Crimson by a score of 3-2. The Royals' defeat signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.

Rogers wouldn't go down easily and took Maple Grove into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking three-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 25-16, 25-15, 22-25, 12-25, 15-12.

Maple Grove can attribute much of their success to Amanda Swiers, who had 29 assists. Those 29 assists gave Swiers a new career-high. Penelope Bonnema also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

Rogers' loss dropped their record down to 17-4. As for Maple Grove, the victory (which was their 14th in a row) raised their record to 18-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rogers will host St. Michael-Albertville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Maple Grove, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Elk River at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
