Volleyball Recap: Hammond Central Takes a Loss

After flying high against Hammond Morton on Thursday, Hammond Central came back down to earth. The Wolves fell just short of the Thornwood Thunderbirds by a score of 2-1 on Saturday. The Wolves were not able to make up for their defeat to the Thunderbirds from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

In an exciting match in which no team claimed back-to-back wins, Hammond Central sadly wound up on the wrong side. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 15-25, 15-9.

Brianna Stephens paced Hammond Central's offense, picking up six kills. Stephens got some help from Julianna Galan and her 12 assists. Finally, Alejandria Bustos and Shyanne Spangler kept the team grounded on defense, each having blocked two attacks.

Hammond Central's loss ended a three-match streak of away wins and brought them to 14-11. As for Thornwood, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-12.

Hammond Central wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 2-1 win against Southland College Prep on the 4th. As for Thornwood, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 2-1 victory against Thornton Fractional North on the 4th.
