Preview: Mountain View Lobos vs. Pecos Eagles
Two dominant backs in Alejandro Lerma and Johnny Morales are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Mountain View Lobos will head out on the road to face off against the Pecos Eagles at 9:50 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Mountain View focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up four on Friday.
Mountain View's recent rough patch got a bit rougher after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 69-13 defeat at the hands of Monahans. While losing is never fun, Mountain View can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 865th, while Monahans is ranked 165th).
Although Mountain View took the loss, they still got scores from Christopher Mendoza and Erick Dominguez.
Meanwhile, Pecos was the victim of a tough 28-7 loss at the hands of Fort Stockton on Friday.
Pecos' loss came about despite a quality game from Morales, who rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. Morales is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played.
Mountain View's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Pecos, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
We should be in store for an exciting game Thursday as both teams have no problem gaining yardage. Mountain View has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 392.2 total yards per game. However, it's not like Pecos struggles in that department as they've been averaging 383 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Mountain View didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Pecos in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, but they still walked away with a 30-24 victory. Will Mountain View repeat their success, or does Pecos have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
