The Eastern Eagles will challenge the South Gallia Rebels at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Eastern has given up an average of 7.3 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Eastern is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 13 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Northwest on Friday. They lost 11-1 to the Mohawks. The Eagles have struggled against the Mohawks recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Gallia). Everything went their way against Western on Friday as they made off with a 26-6 victory. With that win, the Rebels brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
Garrett Gibson made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Gibson was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. What's more, he posted three hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, South Gallia got a massive performance out of Dusty Mooney, who went 3-for-5 with six RBI, three runs, and one triple. Mooney has become a key player for the Rebels: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Lincoln Shamblin, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
South Gallia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .711. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
South Gallia's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-5. As for Eastern, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-8.
Eastern beat South Gallia 10-5 when the teams last played last Wednesday. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rebels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
