Sunlake is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Sickles is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Seahawks will host the Gryphons at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sunlake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Sunlake's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Tuesday's struggle, when Osceola hitters got past them. The Seahawks came up short against the Warriors on Tuesday, falling 12-4. The Seahawks' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Lilly Lyons made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Abigail Avant, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Sickles made easy work of Leto on Tuesday and carried off a 19-4 victory. Considering the Gryphons have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Zoe Mello made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Mello was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
In other batting news, Sickles got a massive performance out of Alyssa Locicero, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3. Those three runs gave Locicero a new career-high. Kalyssa Austin was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
Sickles hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Sunlake's loss dropped their record down to 14-7. As for Sickles, their win bumped their record up to 8-14.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sunlake hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .319. However, it's not like Sickles struggles in that department as they've averaged .315. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
