Dixie Heights extended their winning streak to three on Saturday, bumping them up to 10-9. Everything went their way against the Walton-Verona Bearcats as they made off with a 10-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Colonels, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Ava Niemer was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Niemer was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other pitching news, Sullee Sheehan looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.
Back at the plate, Dixie Heights got a massive performance out of Taylor Dewalt, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave Dewalt a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Burford, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Dixie Heights always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Walton-Verona only posted an OBP of .370.
As for Walton-Verona, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.9 runs over those games.
On Walton-Verona's side, Nova Dryden was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Ava Donato was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run.
Looking ahead, Dixie Heights will head out to square off against Carroll County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. As for Walton-Verona, they will welcome Simon Kenton at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
