The Lake Region Lakers will challenge the Poland Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Lake Region is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Lake Region got the win against Gray-New Gloucester by a conclusive 11-1. The win continues a trend for the Lakers in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won five in a row.
Haley Hamlin was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lake Region let Vylet Robbins and Abbigail Nadeau run wild. Robbins went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Nadeau went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Ella Gibbons was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Poland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lewiston.
Poland saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Phoebe Paradis, who went 2-for-4 with two runs. Leksi Langevin also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Poland's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Lake Region, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lake Region has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Poland struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Lake Region's way against Poland in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Lake Region made off with a 10-2 victory. Do the Lakers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
