Football Game Preview: Holy Name Green Wave vs. Elyria Catholic Panthers

The Holy Name Green Wave will venture away from home to face off against the Elyria Catholic Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many points in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Holy Name is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy on Saturday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Green Wave were outmatched by the Royals and fell 35-0. While losing is never fun, the Green Wave can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 215th, while the Royals are ranked 24th).

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Elyria Catholic took on Lake Catholic on Friday. The Panthers came up short against the Cougars, falling 26-0. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Panthers were not able to get on the board.

This is the second loss in a row for Holy Name and nudges their season record down to 4-3. As for Elyria Catholic, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Holy Name couldn't quite get it done against Elyria Catholic when the teams last played back in October of 2024 as they fell 13-3. Can the Green Wave avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
