Recap: Centennial Hawks vs. Mayfield Trojans

On Friday, the Centennial Hawks faced the Mayfield Trojans in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Centennial suffered a rough 46-24 loss at the hands of the Trojans. Centennial's loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Centennial's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Audi Torrez, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Centennial struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Mayfield racked up 11 assists.

Mayfield found their leader in underclassman Ceanna Mckines, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mckines has scored all season. Lorrena Viarreal was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.

Centennial's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Mayfield, their win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Centennial will take on the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gadsden will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New Mexico Rankings (they are ranked 95th, while the Hawks are ranked 23rd). As for Mayfield, they will head out on the road to take on the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
