Volleyball Recap: Weddington's Run of Ten Straight Victories Now Over

It was a good run, but Weddington unfortunately witnessed the end of their ten-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Marvin Ridge Mavericks by a score of 3-2. The Warriors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mavericks earlier this season, when they won 3-0.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Weddington sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The final score came out to 25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 20-25, 15-4.

Lev Mikhieiev paced Weddington's offense, picking up 15 kills. Mikhieiev got some help from Nithilan Velavan and his 36 assists. Velavan also made an impact serving: he shared the team lead in aces with Liam De Quadros, racking up two apiece.

Weddington's loss dropped their record down to 13-3. As for Marvin Ridge, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-5 record.

Weddington and Marvin Ridge will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matches. The next time the Warriors see the court they'll take on East Mecklenburg at 6:00 p.m. on the 29th. As for Marvin Ridge, their break will end when they face Providence at 5:30 p.m. on the 28th.
