Softball Preview: Sundown Roughnecks vs. Muenster Hornets
For the second straight game, Sundown will face off against Muenster. The Roughnecks will take on the Hornets at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Sundown knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Muenster likes a good challenge.
Sundown is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They walked away with a 10-5 win over Muenster. Sundown's victory was all the more impressive since the Hornets were averaging only 3.7 runs allowed on the season.
Destiny Garza made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Garza was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Nayleen Morin was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one triple. Araceli Ibarra was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Sundown lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Muenster didn't launched any home runs.
Sundown has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 20 of their last 22 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 31-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Muenster, their defeat dropped their record down to 26-10-1.
