Football Recap: Merritt Academy Takes a Loss

Merritt Academy was the 45-16 winner over Akron-Fairgrove when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Mustangs fell 24-20 to the Vikings on Friday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Despite the loss, Merritt Academy still got an impressive performance from Ethan Wolfe, who rushed for 205 yards and three TDs while picking up 8.5 yards per carry. Wolfe's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 100 rushing yards.

Merritt Academy's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Akron-Fairgrove, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 3-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Merritt Academy will head out to square off against Dryden at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs will be up against the Cardinals' rather soft defense (which has allowed 51.5 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Akron-Fairgrove, they will head out on the road to face off against Mayville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
