Basketball Game Preview: Herndon Hornets vs. George C. Marshall Statesmen

Herndon hasn't had much luck against George C. Marshall recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Herndon Hornets will square off against the George C. Marshall Statesmen at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

George C. Marshall will be up against a hot Herndon squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Herndon enjoyed a cozy 63-47 victory over Park View on Wednesday. Given the Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 113th, while the Patriots are ranked 366th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, George C. Marshall entered their tilt with Washington-Liberty on Tuesday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They blew past the Generals 56-35.

Herndon has also been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.4 points per game. As for George C. Marshall, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 14-7.

Herndon came up short against George C. Marshall in their previous matchup back in January, falling 56-50. Can Herndon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
