Preview: Trumbull Eagles vs. Staples Wreckers

Trumbull has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Staples Wreckers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Trumbull has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,148 points over their last 16 matches.

Even though Norwalk scored an imposing 74 points on Friday, Trumbull still came out on top. Trumbull took down Norwalk 90-74. Given Trumbull's advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while Norwalk is ranked 60th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Staples had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.6 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They walked away with a 51-44 win over Ludlowe.

Staples found their leader in underclassman Sam Clachko, who scored 23 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Clachko is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 19 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Mason Tobias, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and two steals.

Trumbull's win bumped their record up to 14-2. As for Staples, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-4.

Trumbull came up short against Staples in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 50-45. Thankfully for Trumbull, Chris Zajac (who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
