Softball Recap: Lansing Catholic Gets the Win

Lansing Catholic won the last time they faced Portland and things went their way on Monday too. The Cougars had just enough and edged out the Raiders 5-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.

Zoey Gruber spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Austynn Arellano, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Dunneback, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Lansing Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Portland, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-3.

Looking ahead, Lansing Catholic will host Williamston at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Portland, they will venture away from home to square off against Haslett at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
