Softball Game Preview: Johnstown Sir Bills vs. Duanesburg Eagles

The Johnstown Sir Bills will challenge the Duanesburg Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Johnstown came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Galway, falling 21-1.

Johnstown saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brynn Williams, who went 1-for-3 with one double. That double was Williams' first of the season.

Meanwhile, Duanesburg lost 12-4 to Fonda-Fultonville on Wednesday. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Genevieve Rickert put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and ten unearned) runs off 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base.

In other batting news, Harlee Manus was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.

Johnstown's loss was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Duanesburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Johnstown has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 9.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Duanesburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
