Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Belle Wilkison and Mary Helen Mendheim Lead Houston Academy to Victory

Houston Academy can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They came out on top against the Dale County Warriors by a score of 34-24. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 28-17 back in November of 2024.

Houston Academy was led to victory by Mary Helen Mendheim and Belle Wilkison. Mendheim posted eight points along with 13 rebounds and six steals, while Wilkison dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 boards. Mendheim has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last five times she's played. Naya Bilbeisi was another key player, putting up four points and eight rebounds.

Houston Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Houston Academy's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-5. As for Dale County, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season.

Houston Academy has already played their next contest (against Slocomb), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Dale County has already played their next game, a 52-22 win against Daleville on the 14th.
