Charleston and Newton are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. The Trojans will head out on the road to challenge the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Charleston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.

Charleston can't be too worried about heading out to take on Newton: they just beat Mt. Zion at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Trojans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Braves on Saturday.

Railyn Cox made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Cox was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI and one triple. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Lainie Keefer was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Avery Beals, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one double.

Meanwhile, Newton made easy work of Shelbyville on Tuesday and carried off a 16-5 victory. Considering the Eagles have won 13 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Newton's record now sits at 21-2. As for Charleston, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-9.
